Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of using a floor stripper?
A floor stripper is a highly alkaline chemical used to dissolve and remove old, yellowed, or damaged layers of floor polish, wax, and sealer from hard surfaces, bringing the floor back to its bare, original state so a fresh coating can be applied.
What is the difference between a floor sealer and a floor polish?
A sealer is a base coat that penetrates porous floors (like concrete or terrazzo) to block moisture and provide a solid foundation. A polish (or finish) is a topcoat applied over the sealer to provide a brilliant, glossy, slip-resistant wear layer.
How do I use a spray buff or floor maintainer?
Spray buff solutions (like Research Products Shiner) are used during daily maintenance. You lightly mist the solution onto the floor and immediately run over it with a high-speed rotary burnisher equipped with a soft polishing pad. This cleans the floor, fills in micro-scratches, and instantly restores a wet-look gloss.
How often should I strip and seal my commercial floors?
This depends heavily on foot traffic and daily maintenance. With proper daily cleaning and regular spray buffing, a high-quality commercial floor coating can last 12 to 18 months before a full 'strip and seal' restoration is required.
Can I use Agar Demolish Super Stripper on timber floors?
You must be extremely careful. Heavy-duty alkaline strippers are generally designed for resilient floors like vinyl, terrazzo, and concrete. Using them on natural timber can raise the grain or cause water damage. Always check the manufacturer's guidelines.
What is a 'low odour' floor stripper?
Traditional floor strippers contain harsh solvents (like ammonia or butyl) that release strong fumes. Low odour strippers are formulated with alternative, safer solvents, making them essential for use in hospitals, schools, and enclosed commercial spaces.
Do I need to neutralize the floor after stripping?
Yes. Floor strippers are highly alkaline. After removing the slurry, the floor must be thoroughly rinsed with clean water (and sometimes a neutralizing chemical) to return the pH to neutral. If the floor is too alkaline, the new sealer will not adhere properly and may powder off.
How many coats of sealer and polish should I apply?
For optimal durability in a commercial setting, contractors typically apply 1 to 2 coats of base sealer (depending on floor porosity), followed by 3 to 4 thin coats of high-gloss floor polish. Always let each coat dry completely before applying the next.
Can I use a floor sealer outdoors?
It depends on the product. Some water-based sealers (like Agar First Base) offer UV resistance and can be used on exterior concrete or terrazzo under undercover areas, but they are generally not suitable for outdoor timber decks exposed directly to heavy rain.
Do you provide Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for these chemicals?
Absolutely. Workplace safety is critical when handling highly concentrated stripping chemicals. We supply up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all commercial floor care products we sell.
Can I buy floor strippers and sealers in bulk?
Yes, Freshway Supplies caters directly to professional floor restoration contractors. We offer highly competitive wholesale pricing on bulk 5L, 15L, and 20L drums of commercial floor chemistry.
Do you deliver commercial floor chemicals across Australia?
Yes. Freshway Supplies provides fast, secure, and fully tracked freight shipping for all heavy commercial cleaning chemicals, strippers, and floor sealers to all states and regional areas across Australia.
