Pacvac Multi-Purpose Floor Tool 32 mm Fitment
Posted on by John Wei

1.2 metres against 2 metres. Those are the lengths of Pacvac's replacement hose for its backpacks and its hose for the Glide 300 canister, as Freshway lists them, and that 0.8 metre gap explains much of what changes when the same tools move from a cleaner's back to a machine on wheels. Both hoses end in a 32 mm handpiece, so the tools themselves often swap straight across.

This guide looks at attachments from the engineering side: which tools come in the box, how each format changes the way a tool is used, where connection sizes trip buyers up, and which tools a dry machine should never be given. It finishes with a fit-check procedure and a buying list.

Commercial Vacuum Attachments: What Changes Backpack vs Canister Jobs

Commercial vacuum attachments: the short answer

Commercial vacuum attachments do the same jobs on backpacks and canisters, but the format changes reach, carrying and which tools are safe to use. Check the connection size first, often 32 mm on Pacvac machines, keep floor, dusting, crevice and upholstery tools in every kit, and reserve wet squeegee tools for wet and dry machines.

The rest of this guide expands each of those points, starting with what each machine ships with.

Core tool kits: what ships in the box

Freshway's listings show how similar the starting kits are across formats. The difference is mostly in the hose and how the tools travel with the operator.

Machine Format Tools listed as included Hose detail from Freshway listings
Pacvac Superpro 700 Backpack Two-piece wand, combination floor tool, crevice tool, dusting brush, upholstery tool HOA014 replacement hose: 1.2 m, screw-fit machine end, 32 mm antistatic handpiece
Pacvac Thrift 650 Backpack Hose, two-piece wand, combination floor tool HOA014 is listed as fitting the Thrift 650
Pacvac Glide 300 Canister Hose and wand assembly, combination floor tool, crevice tool, dusting brush, upholstery tool HOA013 hose: 2 m, screw-fit machine end, 32 mm antistatic handpiece
Numatic Henry HVR200 Canister (tub) Stainless steel wand set, combination floor tool, dusting brush, crevice tool Numatic's 32 mm hose end cuff is listed for the Henry

If a backpack kit has to be rebuilt in one go, Freshway also lists a complete kit for the Superpro 700 series with a hose, two chrome extension wands and a Wessel-Werk low-profile combination floor tool.

Backpack vs canister: what changes on the job

On a backpack, the machine moves with the cleaner, so the short hose is enough and every tool change happens at the hip. The tools that are not in use need a place on the operator or the trolley, or they get left behind on the last floor. On a canister, the longer hose gives reach from a parked machine, the tools can ride on the body, and the operator pulls the machine by the hose between areas.

Wand length matters on both. WorkSafe Victoria's vacuuming guidance recommends extendable wands or extra rods, and training cleaners to adjust wand length so the shoulder and elbow stay in a natural position close to the body. It also suggests light backpacks with adequate lumbar support for stairways and elevated surfaces such as windowsills and doorways, which is where above-floor tools earn their keep.

The tool you fit changes the strain as well. SafeWork NSW lists repetitive or sustained force and sustained or awkward posture among the risk factors that make a manual task hazardous, and WorkSafe Victoria's cleaning injury hotspots page names backpack vacuum cleaners as a mechanical aid for handling equipment and tool extensions as an aid for awkward postures. A tool that suits the surface and a wand at the right length address both.

Soft floor tools

For carpet, the combination floor tool supplied with most machines does the daily work. WorkSafe Victoria's guidance links the head to the surface: bristles extended for low carpets or hard floors, smooth heads for thick carpets, and combined heads for both, so the cleaner is not forcing the tool across the pile.

For heavy hair and fluff, an air-driven turbo brush is the step up. Freshway lists the Wessel-Werk TK286 with a 32 mm friction-fit neck, a single air-driven turbine and an adjustable airflow valve. Check its neck against the wand diameter before ordering, as with any tool.

Hard floor tools

Hard floors want a tool that glides without scratching and keeps its seal at the front edge. Freshway's listing for Pacvac's FLT002 multi-purpose floor tool gives a 285 mm cleaning width, a 32 mm neck and twin rear wheels, and lists it for the Superpro 700 series, the Thrift 650 and any commercial vacuum using a standard 32 mm wand. That width is the same on either format, so on a mixed fleet one tool can serve both.

Above-floor tools

Above-floor work is where backpacks are usually quicker, because the cleaner is not stopping to drag the machine closer. The tools are the same on both formats:

  • Dusting brush for vents, ledges, keyboards and blinds. Pacvac's ACC001 has an oval head with soft nylon bristles and a 32 mm connection, and Freshway lists it for Velo, Superpro and Thrift backpacks as well as the Glide, Hush and Hydropro 21 machines.
  • Crevice tool for skirting, seat tracks and tight gaps.
  • Upholstery tool for fabric chairs and partitions. WorkSafe Victoria gives upholstery attachments for furniture as an example of matching the attachment to the surface.

Make sure each tool is easy to change. WorkSafe Victoria lists attachments and settings that are easy to change among its controls for reducing force when vacuuming.

Wet tools: barrel machines only

A squeegee floor tool turns a wet and dry machine into a quick recovery tool for spills and rinse water. Freshway lists Numatic's Multiflo wet floor tool with a 300 mm head, dual rubber squeegee strips and a 32 mm neck, for Numatic wet pick-up machines such as the WV370, WV380, WV470 and Charles CVC370.

Never fit a wet tool to a dry backpack or a dry canister just because the neck fits. A 32 mm neck may well fit the wand of a Pacvac Velo, but Freshway lists the Velo as a dry backpack, and the machine behind the tool is what matters. SafeWork NSW's hospitality page lists electric shocks when vacuuming wet carpets among the industry's harms. Its guidance on slips, trips and falls also lists slippery floors resulting from cleaning products or methods as a common risk, so pick up all the water and keep people off the floor until it is dry. Wet and dry machines are in Freshway's wet and dry vacuum range.

Compatibility traps

Most attachment problems on a mixed fleet come from a few traps:

  • Diameter. Freshway's listings span 32 mm (Pacvac, Numatic and many others), 35 mm (such as Kärcher's DN35 crevice nozzle) and 38 mm (the "oversized industrial standard" for Cleanstar's S wands and chrome bent end piece). A 32 mm tool will not seal on a 38 mm wand.
  • Inside or outside fit. Some tools fit over the cuff rather than into it. Cleanstar's DBB040 round dusting brush has a 45 mm internal diameter that fits over a 38 mm hose cuff.
  • Push-fit or screw-fit. Pacvac's two-piece chrome wand is a 32 mm push-fit, while its hoses use a screw-fit machine end.
  • Machine-end connectors. These are model-specific. Pacvac's CON001 is listed for the Superpro range, not every 32 mm machine.
  • Antistatic handpieces. Pacvac's HOA014 and HOA013 hoses both have an antistatic handpiece. A generic hose may not.

Fit-check procedure for new attachments

  1. Read the connection size on the machine's hose cuff or wand, or from its listing.
  2. Check whether the new tool fits inside or over that cuff, and whether it is friction, push or screw fit.
  3. Confirm the machine is rated for the job: dry only, or wet and dry.
  4. Fit the tool and check it holds when the wand is lifted and shaken lightly.
  5. Run the machine and feel for air leaking at each joint; a whistle means a poor seal.
  6. Adjust the wand length to the operator before handing the kit over.
  7. Label the tool with the machine format or fleet number so it returns to the right kit.

Wear parts and a buying list

Attachments wear faster than machines. Floor tool soles and bristles flatten, hose cuffs crack from being pulled, and wands dent. Freshway lists Numatic's 32 mm hose end cuff as a separate part for machines from the Henry to the WV470, which is a smaller fix than replacing the whole hose when only the end has failed.

A practical kit list per machine:

  • Combination floor tool, plus a hard floor tool for mixed sites.
  • Dusting brush, crevice tool and upholstery tool.
  • Spare wand section and a spare hose cuff for the fleet.
  • Turbo brush for sites with heavy hair or fluff.
  • Squeegee floor tool for wet and dry machines only.

Bags and filters belong on the same order; Freshway's guide to matching vacuum bags and filters to the right machine covers them.

Frequently asked questions

Do backpack and canister vacuums use the same attachments?

Often, if they share a connection size. Freshway lists Pacvac's ACC001 dusting brush and two-piece chrome wand for both Pacvac backpacks and canisters. Check the diameter and fit type before mixing brands.

What size are most commercial vacuum attachments?

32 mm is common, including on Pacvac and many Numatic machines, but Freshway also lists 35 mm and 38 mm tools. Measure or check the listing before ordering.

Can I use a squeegee tool on a backpack vacuum?

Only if the backpack is rated for wet pick-up. Dry machines are not built for water, so keep squeegee tools for wet and dry machines.

Why does my new floor tool keep falling off?

The diameter or fit type is probably wrong for the wand. Check whether the tool should fit inside or over the cuff, and whether the wand is 32, 35 or 38 mm.
