Can I plug this into a normal household power socket?

No. This is a heavy-duty commercial machine that requires a specialized 15-Amp power point. A standard Australian domestic wall socket is only 10 Amps. The 15-Amp plug on this machine has a larger earth pin and will physically not fit into a 10-Amp socket.

Why is hot water better than cold water for cleaning?

Cold water only provides physical pushing force. When you try to clean engine grease or cooking oil with cold water, it just pushes the grease around.
