Nilfisk Commercial Cleaning Machines: What the Range Covers and How It Compares

Nilfisk is the brand most often shortlisted against Karcher for commercial work, and the comparison usually comes down to one question: does the site need a machine, or a machine plus a documented filtration specification? Nilfisk’s strength sits in the second answer.

Start here: Nilfisk for filtration and industrial duty, not for the cheapest machine

Nilfisk competes on filtration specification, build quality and industrial duty cycle. If a site specifies HEPA or a dust class, or a machine runs continuously in an industrial environment, Nilfisk is the appropriate shortlist. For light commercial work where filtration is not specified, other brands deliver the same result for less.

That is the honest positioning, and it is why we stock the range alongside Karcher rather than instead of it. Across our Nilfisk range of 164 products, the machines cluster in two groups: commercial vacuums where filtration is the specification, and industrial machines built for continuous duty.

Prices are Freshway catalogue prices as at 16 September 2026 and are subject to change. Confirm the current price, and whether GST applies, before quoting.

GM80B industrial dry vacuum Industrial vacuum Continuous-duty industrial machine A$1,920.00
GM80PR industrial dry vacuum Industrial vacuum Continuous-duty, higher specification A$2,088.90

Two things are worth reading off that table. First, the GD5 platform appears three times — corded, HEPA and battery — which means a fleet can standardise on one platform and vary the filtration and power source per site rather than buying three unrelated machines. Second, the M-class and H-class AERO machines are a different category from the rest: they exist because a dust class is specified, not because the site needs better cleaning.

The filtration tier is the whole point

Nilfisk’s commercial argument is filtration, and the specifications that matter are the dust classes.

Filtration tiers across the range
Tier Example model Used where
Standard commercial GD5 dry, VP300 Offices, hospitality, general commercial cleaning
HEPA GD5 HEPA, GD930 PRO HEPA S2 Healthcare, allergy-sensitive sites, where HEPA is specified
M-class AERO 26 M-class Medium-hazard dust, including much construction and wood dust
H-class AERO 26 H-class High-hazard dust where the highest filtration level is required

If a site specifies a class, that class is not negotiable and the machine has to match it. Where no class is specified, buying an M-class machine for general office cleaning is cost without benefit — the standard commercial tier covers the work. The SafeWork NSW guidance on hazardous dust is the practical starting point for working out what a site actually requires.

Karcher or Nilfisk?

This is the question we are asked most about this brand, and the answer is a division of labour rather than a winner.

Consideration Nilfisk Karcher
Filtration specification Broadest range of HEPA, M-class and H-class machines Covers the main classes but with fewer tiers
Industrial continuous duty Strong — GM series built for it Strong in the HD and HDS ranges
Range breadth for general cleaning Narrower — mostly vacuums and floor machines Much broader — vacuums, pressure washers, steam, carpet
Consumable and part availability Good and continuous Very wide, including compatible options
Entry price for light commercial Higher Lower, with more tiers

The practical answer: where a site specifies filtration or runs industrial duty cycles, shortlist Nilfisk. Where the requirement is general commercial cleaning and the site already runs Karcher equipment, staying on one platform is usually the better decision, because it avoids a second set of consumables. Our Nilfisk range and Karcher range both cover spares and consumables.

The AERO M-class and H-class machines exist because a dust class is specified, not because the site needs better cleaning. See Nilfisk vacuums.

Consumables and parts across the range

A machine purchase is a decision about a supply relationship as much as about a product, and Nilfisk consumables are model-specific.

Representative Nilfisk consumables and parts
Item Fits Price
Vacuum motor protection filter, 3 pack Action Plus series A$7.50
Lock washer, pack of 3 UZ934 A$18.70
Detachable cord flex, 10 m VP300 A$83.99
Harness strap GD5 and GD10 backpacks A$164.09
Vacuum cleaner motor GD910 A$190.00
Vacuum cleaner motor GS80, GM80, GM90 A$437.58

The motor prices are the figure worth noting. On the GD and GM platforms a replacement motor is a fraction of a new machine, which is what makes these machines worth repairing rather than replacing — and it is the practical argument for buying into a platform with continuous parts supply rather than into whichever machine is cheapest at the time.

Robotic and autonomous machines

The range now includes autonomous scrubber dryers — the Liberty SC50 and SC60, and the SC25 with LiDAR navigation. These are priced on application rather than from a list, because the specification depends on the site layout, and they suit large, repetitive, well-mapped floor areas rather than buildings with variable layouts.

The honest position is that autonomous scrubbing is a labour-redeployment decision rather than a labour-replacement one: the machine covers the large open floor while the operator does the edges, the washrooms and the detail work. Where a site is considering one, the assessment is about floor layout and mapping stability before it is about cleaning performance. Talk to us directly about a site assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nilfisk a good brand?
Yes — Nilfisk is a long-established commercial and industrial cleaning manufacturer, and its strength is filtration specification and machines built for continuous duty. Where a site specifies HEPA, M-class or H-class filtration, the range covers tiers that many competitors do not.
Is Nilfisk German?
Nilfisk is a Danish company by origin and is one of the oldest cleaning equipment manufacturers in the world. Its professional range is engineered in Europe, and it sits in the same commercial tier as Karcher rather than in the domestic market.
Which is better, Karcher or Nilfisk?
For filtration-specified or industrial work, Nilfisk usually has the better-matched machine. For general commercial cleaning, Karcher’s broader range and wider consumable availability are hard to argue against. Most sites we supply use both, for different jobs.
Who is Nilfisk owned by?
Nilfisk is a publicly listed company in its own right rather than a division of a larger group, which matters for parts availability: the brand is not exposed to a parent company deciding to exit the category. Consumables and spare parts remain continuously available through the Australian distribution network.
Do I need a HEPA vacuum for general commercial cleaning?
No. Standard commercial filtration covers offices, hospitality and general cleaning. HEPA is justified where the site specifies it, where occupants have dust sensitivities, or where the material being collected is hazardous. Buying HEPA where it is not required adds cost without changing the cleaning result.
