Karcher Steam Cleaner SC 3 Deluxe EasyFix 1.513-434.0
Posted on by John Wei

Karcher sells two entirely different things under the name “steam cleaner”: a domestic SC range that starts at A$269, and a professional SG range that starts at A$1,999. They are not the same machine at different prices, and buying the wrong range is the most common mistake we see in this category.

Karcher Steam Cleaners: SC1 to SC4 and the SG Series Compared

Decide the range before the model

The SC range is built for intermittent domestic and light commercial use, with a pressurised tank and heat-up measured in minutes. The SG range has a boiler that refills while running, for daily professional work. If the machine runs more than about an hour at a time, the SC range is the wrong purchase.

That distinction is the whole decision, and it is why our range carries both: SC 1 through SC 4 for homes, small offices and light trade work, and SG 4/2 and SG 4/4 for commercial and food environments where the machine is a working tool rather than a household appliance.

Prices are Freshway catalogue prices as at 16 September 2026 and are subject to change. Confirm the current price, and whether GST applies, before quoting.

What the model numbers tell you

Model names and included accessories change, so confirm the exact Australian SKU rather than relying on a family name alone. Kärcher Australia’s current steam-cleaner range is the primary reference for available models, while its usage guide shows the intended tools for floors, grout, taps, textiles and detail work.

Two prefixes carry the entire distinction. SC models are domestic machines: a sealed, pressurised tank that you fill, heat and then use until it runs out. SG models are professional machines: a boiler with continuous fill, so you refill while working rather than stopping to depressurise.

Within the SC range, the number is a tier rather than a generation. A higher number means a larger tank, higher pressure and more accessories in the box, not a newer design. On SG the number is a capacity and output code in the same style as Karcher’s professional pressure cleaners: SG 4/2 and SG 4/4 differ in boiler size and output rather than in generation.

SC 1 to SC 4 compared

Karcher SC range stocked by Freshway Supplies
Model Form Notes from the specification Price
SC 1 Upright steam mop Upright Lightweight, stick form; floors only A$269.00
SC 1 Multi & Up Two-in-one Converts between upright and handheld A$299.00
SC 2 Deluxe Canister 3.2 bar, 1 L, approx. 6.5 min heat-up A$380.23
SC 2 EasyFix Canister EasyFix floor kit A$399.00
SC 2 EasyFix ATK Canister Multi-surface kit A$499.00
SC 3 Deluxe & EasyFix Canister 1,900 W, 3.5 bar, 1 L, approx. 30 s heat-up A$499.00
SC 3 EasyFix Canister 1,900 W, 1 L A$523.41
SC 4 EasyFix Iron Plug Canister Iron plug connector for continuous use A$779.00

Two things stand out when you read the range this way. First, the SC 3 Deluxe and the SC 2 EasyFix ATK are the same price at A$499 despite different specifications — the SC 3 gives you more pressure and a much faster heat-up, the SC 2 ATK gives you a broader accessory kit. Second, the SC 3 EasyFix costs more than the SC 3 Deluxe at the same wattage, which is a packaging difference rather than a performance one.

Where the professional SG series begins

Karcher SG range stocked by Freshway Supplies
Model Positioning Price
SG 4/2 chemical-free steam cleaner Professional entry point A$1,999.00
SG 4/4 compact professional steam cleaner Higher output, compact body A$2,599.00

The step from a A$779 SC 4 to a A$1,999 SG 4/2 is almost entirely about duty cycle rather than cleaning power. An SC machine has to be filled, heated and depleted; an SG machine is refilled while it runs. On a site where one person cleans continuously through a shift, that difference is the whole argument. On a site cleaning intermittently, it is not worth the price difference.

The SG 4/4 Compact — a continuous-fill boiler rather than a sealed tank. That single difference is what justifies the step up in price on shift-length work. Compare steam cleaners.

What steam removes, and what it does not

Steam is a solvent and a heat source, not a detergent. It loosens grease, softens dried residue and lifts soil from hard surfaces so it can be wiped away. That makes it genuinely effective on tile, grout, glass, stainless steel, sealed hard floors and many fittings.

It is not a replacement for chemical disinfection on every surface, and the claim needs care. Steam at the temperatures these machines produce kills many organisms on contact, but the result depends on contact time and on the surface temperature actually reached — which is lower on cold or porous materials. On sites with a documented disinfection requirement, steam is best treated as a cleaning step that reduces the chemical load, not as an auditable substitute for a validated disinfectant program. Our floor and surface disinfectants range covers that side.

Accessories: which ones earn their place

Most of the SC range ships with a floor kit and a couple of brushes. Beyond that, we see four accessories actually used regularly:

  • Textile care nozzle — for curtains, upholstery and mattresses, where steam refreshes fabric without saturating it.
  • Power brush set — for grout and textured tile, where the bristles do work that a flat nozzle cannot.
  • Hand tool — for detailing around fittings, hobs and appliances.
  • Crevice brush — for tracks, corners and the joints where soil actually collects.

We stock these separately as Karcher steam cleaner accessories, which matters because accessories are rarely compatible across model years. If you are buying an accessory rather than a machine, check it against your model code first.

Water and descaling: what determines how long it lasts

Tank scale is the main reason a steam cleaner loses performance or stops working, and Australian water varies considerably by region. Two habits extend life more than anything else: use the descaling cartridge or procedure the manual specifies, and do not leave water sitting in the tank between uses.

The Karcher Australia site publishes the descaling procedure and the water hardness guidance for each model, and that is the authoritative source. A question we are asked regularly is whether vinegar can be used instead of a proprietary descaler. Karcher does not recommend it for these machines: acetic acid attacks some of the seals and plastic components in the steam circuit, and damage from it is not covered by warranty. Use the specified descaler.

Matching the machine to the job

Model selection by use case
The work Model Why
Home hard floors only SC 1 Upright Lightest option; it is a steam mop, not a multi-surface cleaner
Home floors plus bathrooms and kitchen SC 1 Multi & Up or SC 2 Handheld mode reaches fittings the upright cannot
Small office or clinic, occasional use SC 3 Deluxe Fast heat-up means the machine is ready when a spot job appears
Light trade, daily but intermittent SC 4 EasyFix Iron plug connector supports longer continuous sessions
Commercial cleaning, full shifts SG 4/2 or SG 4/4 Continuous fill; the machine does not stop when the tank empties
Food production or kitchen deep clean SG 4/4 Built for grease loads and shift-length use

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Kärcher steam cleaner to buy?

Choose by workload rather than model number alone. SC1 suits short detail jobs and limited storage; larger SC models suit longer floor-cleaning sessions, with refill workflow, heat-up time, tank arrangement and accessories becoming more important as use increases.

Is a Kärcher steam cleaner any good?

It can be effective on compatible sealed hard surfaces when the correct accessory, cloth and steam setting are used. Results depend on the soil and surface; steam does not replace every degreaser, stain treatment or manual agitation step.

What should I not clean with a steam cleaner?

Avoid unsealed, heat-sensitive or moisture-sensitive materials unless their manufacturer explicitly permits steam. Examples can include unsealed timber, some laminates, delicate coatings, cold glass exposed to thermal shock and electrical components.

What is the difference between Kärcher SC1, SC2, SC3 and SC4?

They differ mainly in size, operating workflow, heat-up and refill arrangement, storage and included accessories. Compare the exact Australian product specification because bundles and generations can vary.

Not sure whether you need SC or SG?

Tell us how long the machine runs in a typical day and what surfaces it has to handle, and we will tell you honestly whether the SC range is enough — including when the cheaper machine is the right one. Browse Karcher steam cleaners or ask our team.
