Karcher Carpet Cleaners: Puzzi Models and RM Chemicals
Karcher sells three quite different things under the heading of carpet cleaning: spray extraction machines, interim dry cleaning machines, and the chemistry that goes with them. Buying the wrong one of those three is the most expensive mistake in the category, and it is usually made by comparing tank sizes.
Puzzi, BRC and BRS are different methods
Puzzi machines are spray extraction cleaners: they inject solution and recover it with vacuum in the same pass. The BRC is a deep commercial machine, and the BRS an interim dry cleaner that crystallises soil for later vacuuming. Matching the method to the cleaning programme matters more than the tank size.

The battery Puzzi is the interesting one for occupied buildings. It runs on 36 V rather than mains power, which removes the lead across a foyer and the trip hazard that comes with it — and it is the machine to specify where cleaning happens while people are walking through.
Which Puzzi for which building
- Single rooms and light commercial: the SE 5.100 at A$799.00 covers an office or a small hospitality space without a premium.
- Contract cleaning, one machine: the Puzzi 10/1 at A$1,850.00 is the standard professional choice, and the Puzzi 8/1 at A$1,299.00 is the lighter option where the work is smaller.
- Occupied premises: the Puzzi 9/1 BP, for the reason above.
- Scheduled deep cleaning at volume: the Puzzi 30/4 at A$4,499.00, or the BRC 40/22 C where carpet is the primary surface and the machine runs daily.
- High-traffic interim cleaning between extractions: the BRS 43/500 C dry cleaner.
RM chemicals: what each code is for
The chemistry is where most sites under-specify, because the machine is visible and the chemicals are not. Four products cover the range.
| Product | Where it fits | Price |
|---|---|---|
| RM 519 carpet cleaner, 1 L | The routine extraction detergent | A$33.79 |
| CarpetPro iCapsol tablets, RM 760 | Encapsulating/tablet format for interim cleaning | A$45.00 |
| CarpetPro universal stain remover, RM 769, 500 mL | Spot and stain work before extraction | A$60.55 |
| CarpetPro cleaners RM 764 OA and RM 767 | Professional CarpetPro chemistry | A$205.00 each |
The iCapsol tablets are the product people ask about least and need most in high-traffic retail. They are used with the encapsulation method — the soil crystallises and is vacuumed out later — which is why an interim clean can be done during trading hours without closing the area to dry.
Wands, nozzles and hand tools
A Puzzi is only as capable as the tool on the end of it, and the tool set is what converts a floor-cleaning machine into one that can also do stairs, upholstery and hard floors.

| Spray/suction gun DN32, 4.130-000.0 | Replacement gun | A$189.00 |
| Suction turbine motor, 1200 W | Fits NT35/1 and Puzzi 8/1 | A$345.26 |
| Carpet nozzle set complete, 240 mm | Replacement floor nozzle | A$353.00 |
| Oscillating pump, 6.473-376.0 | Fits Puzzi 100, 200, 10/1 and 10/2 | A$369.00 |
| Flexible floor nozzle, 350 mm, 4.130-011.0 | Replacement floor head | A$429.00 |
What fails, and what to hold
Extraction machines fail in the pump, the turbine and the tooling, in roughly that order of expense and reverse order of frequency. The pump is what feeds solution; a pump that has been allowed to sit with chemistry in it will fail early, which is why flushing solution lines at the end of a job is the single most valuable habit on these machines. The tooling — jets, nozzles and hoses — accounts for most of the rest.
Hold one spare hose and one spare nozzle set if the machine runs daily. Our rods and wands range covers the wider tool set, and service and repair handles machines where the fault is internal.
Questions we get asked most
- Which Karcher carpet cleaner is best?
- For professional contract work the Puzzi 10/1 at A$1,850.00 is the machine most sites standardise on, with the Puzzi 8/1 at A$1,299.00 as the lighter alternative. Where cleaning happens in occupied buildings, the battery Puzzi 9/1 BP is the better specification.
- How do you use a Karcher carpet cleaner?
- Pre-spray or apply detergent to the carpet, allow the dwell time, agitate if the soil is heavy, then extract with slow overlapping passes and finish with dry passes to recover remaining moisture. Skip the recovery and the carpet re-soils quickly.
- What is the very best carpet cleaner on the market?
- Best depends on the method the building needs rather than the machine. Spray extraction for scheduled deep cleaning, interim dry cleaning for occupied high-traffic areas, and both in a mixed portfolio. We stock all three methods rather than arguing for one.
- What is the best carpet cleaner in Australia?
- For commercial work, a machine with heated or high-volume extraction and a proper tool set. The Karcher Puzzi range, the BRC machines and the Numatic extraction models in our catalogue all cover that brief at different price points.
- Can one machine clean carpet and upholstery?
- Yes, with the right nozzles. The Puzzi range takes upholstery nozzles, hand tools and a hard surface adapter, so a single machine covers carpet, seating and hard floors. Most sites buy the tools once and then forget they exist.

Choosing between Puzzi models?
