Makita DUC306 36V Brushless Top Handle Chainsaw 300mm – Cordless Chainsaw

Execute highly advanced, aerial tree maintenance and rapid timber processing completely off the electrical grid with the highly specialized Makita DUC306 36V Brushless Top Handle Chainsaw. In the demanding commercial arboriculture and landscaping sectors, operating a traditional, heavy rear-handle petrol chainsaw while suspended in a harness is incredibly dangerous and physically exhausting. This professional-grade cordless chainsaw provides the ultimate, high-efficiency aerial solution. Engineered with a purpose-built Outer Rotor Brushless motor and a direct drive system, it eliminates internal carbon friction, delivering the explosive cutting power and high chain speed required by professional arborists without the severe noise, weight, or toxic exhaust fumes of a combustion engine.

Designed for absolute worksite supremacy and unparalleled operator ergonomics, the Makita DUC306 is specifically engineered with a 'Top Handle' design, allowing for perfectly balanced, highly maneuverable operation in tight canopies. It operates on the universal Makita 18V Li-Ion platform. By utilizing two 18V batteries simultaneously, it delivers a robust 36V of continuous cutting power, driving the 300mm (12-inch) chain at an exceptionally high speed of 1,200 m/min. It is heavily equipped with operator-focused technology, including an intelligent Torque Boost Mode, an integrated climbing ring for harness attachment, and a metal spike bumper. These elite garden power tools provide professional arborists and facility managers with a virtually indestructible asset for executing clean, rapid cuts in the most demanding vertical environments.

Who Is The Makita 36V Top Handle Chainsaw Ideal For?

The Makita DUC306 delivers a Top Handle design, a 36V outer rotor brushless motor, and Torque Boost Mode. It is highly recommended for:

  • Arborists & Tree Surgeons: Utilizing a highly robust, perfectly balanced cordless chainsaw explicitly designed for aerial use. The integrated climbing ring allows the saw to be clipped directly to an arborist's harness for safe, high-reach canopy work.
  • Landscapers & Property Maintenance: Relying on the extremely high chain speed (1,200 m/min) to execute clean, surgical pruning cuts on thick hardwood branches rapidly without causing severe tear-out or damage to the tree.
  • Forestry & Council Workers: Taking absolute advantage of the Torque Boost Mode. If the blade bogs down in extremely dense timber, engaging the boost mode provides an immediate surge of power to cleanly finish the cut.
  • Facility OH&S Managers: Deploying premium power tool accessories and equipment that feature an automatic kickback brake and variable speed control, ensuring staff are operating the safest, most compliant machinery available.

Key Features and Performance Benefits:

  • Outer Rotor Brushless Motor (Direct Drive): The ultimate electrical advantage. By placing the magnets on the outer spinning ring, the motor generates vastly more torque than standard brushless designs. The direct drive system transfers this power straight to the chain, ensuring massive, highly efficient cutting force.
  • Torque Boost Mode: Ensures unyielding commercial reliability. If cutting through exceptionally hard, thick materials, the operator can hold the power button for 2 seconds. This engages Torque Boost Mode, providing a massive surge of power for up to 60 seconds to push the blade through without stalling.
  • Top Handle Ergonomic Design: Prioritizes worksite safety. Unlike standard saws where the hands are spread far apart, the top handle places the weight perfectly under the operator's grip. This allows for exceptional maneuverability and precision when working in tight, elevated tree canopies.
  • Extreme 36V Cutting Power: Delivers rapid worksite productivity. The 18Vx2 system generates a massive chain speed of 1,200 m/min, completely matching the sheer cutting performance of a heavy petrol chainsaw.
  • Extreme Protection Technology (XPT): Built for worksite survival. The internal components and battery ports are engineered with specialized seals that highly resist harsh dust, sap, and dripping water, ensuring the machine survives grueling operations in severe outdoor weather.

What is the difference between a 'Top Handle' and a standard chainsaw?

A standard chainsaw has a rear handle and is designed for cutting logs on the ground. A 'Top Handle' saw places the main grip directly over the motor. This creates a highly balanced, compact machine explicitly designed for professional arborists working high up in tree canopies.

Does this chainsaw require one or two batteries?

This is a massive 36V machine that operates on the '18V x 2' platform. You MUST slide two (2) standard Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries into the machine simultaneously for it to operate. It will not run on a single battery.

What does 'Outer Rotor Brushless Motor' mean?

Traditional brushless motors have a stationary outer ring and a spinning center. An 'Outer Rotor' design places the magnets on the outside spinning ring, which generates vastly more torque (cutting power) than standard designs. This allows it to match a heavy petrol engine.

How does the 'Torque Boost Mode' work?

If you are cutting extremely hard, dense timber and the saw begins to slow down, you ensure the saw is off, then press and hold the power button for 2 seconds. This activates a 60-second surge of maximum electrical torque, allowing you to power through the stubborn wood effortlessly.

What is the 'Climbing Ring' for?

Because this saw is explicitly designed for arborists, it features a heavy-duty metal ring on the back. This allows the operator to securely clip the 4.7kg saw directly to their climbing harness using a lanyard, keeping their hands free while climbing the tree.

Do I need to mix oil and petrol to run this?

Absolutely NOT. This is a 100% battery-powered electric machine. There are no spark plugs, no pull cords, no exhaust fumes, and zero messy fuel mixing required. You simply slide the 18V batteries in, press the power button, and pull the trigger.

Do I still need to use Chain Oil?

YES, absolutely. While the motor is electric, the metal chain spinning on the metal bar creates massive friction. You must fill the 200mL reservoir with dedicated Bar and Chain Oil to prevent the chain from burning out and snapping instantly.

What does 'XPT' (Extreme Protection Technology) mean?

XPT is a series of specialized internal seals and channels designed by Makita. It explicitly protects the sensitive electronic components and battery terminals from harsh worksite dust, sticky tree sap, and dripping water when operating in severe outdoor weather conditions.

What is the 'Metal Spike Bumper' for?

The metal spikes located at the base of the bar allow you to bite into the branch. This acts as a pivot point, giving you leverage to push the bar completely through the timber smoothly, without the saw jumping around dangerously.

Does it have a kickback brake?

Yes. This is a critical safety feature. If the tip of the bar hits a hard object and the saw kicks back violently toward the operator, their wrist hits the front hand guard. This instantly engages the mechanical brake, stopping the chain in milliseconds.

How is the chain tightened on this model?

Unlike the DUC353 which uses a tool-less dial, the professional DUC306 utilizes 'Captive Bar Nuts'. You use the included spanner wrench to loosen the nuts and tension the chain. The nuts are 'captive', meaning they will not fall off the cover and get lost in the grass.

Do you offer trade pricing for arborists?

Yes, Freshway Supplies provides competitive volume pricing and trade accounts for professional arborists, landscaping contractors, and municipal maintenance teams ordering bulk cordless power equipment. Contact us to establish your account.
