Product Description

Makita HEPA Filter for DCL280 & DCL281 Stick Vacuums (199989-8)

Elevate the indoor air quality of your home or jobsite with the premium Makita HEPA Filter (199989-8). Designed specifically for the highly advanced Makita 18V LXT and 40V XGT Compact Brushless Stick Vacuums (including the DCL280, DCL281, and CL001G models), this clinical-grade vacuum replacement filter traps microscopic pollutants that standard cloth filters simply blow back into the room. Utilizing a highly efficient pleated design, this filtration system captures an astonishing 99.97% of airborne particulates down to 0.3 microns in size, making it an absolute necessity for environments requiring strict dust control.

When operating high-powered brushless vacuums, maintaining unrestricted airflow while capturing fine dust is a significant engineering challenge. This authentic Makita HEPA filter accessory achieves both. Constructed from highly durable, premium-quality materials, the filter maintains its structural integrity even under the intense suction of Makita's brushless motors, ensuring a significantly longer service life. Whether you are extracting fine drywall dust on a commercial construction site or eliminating pet dander and pollen from a residential living room, this HEPA stick vacuum filter guarantees a safer, healthier breathing environment.

Who Is This HEPA Filter Ideal For?

The Makita 199989-8 HEPA Filter provides clinical-grade dust extraction. It is highly recommended for:

Asthma & Allergy Sufferers: Ensuring microscopic triggers like pollen, dust mites, and pet dander are permanently trapped inside the vacuum and not recirculated into the air.
Tradespeople & Builders: Safely capturing hazardous, ultra-fine particulate matter such as plaster dust, cement dust, and fine sawdust on commercial job sites.
Commercial Office Cleaners: Maintaining the highest standards of indoor air quality in populated corporate environments and healthcare facilities.
Current Makita Brushless Vacuum Owners: Upgrading their DCL280 or DCL281 machines with genuine OEM HEPA filtration for maximum motor protection and suction.

Key Features and Performance Benefits:

True HEPA Filtration: The advanced pleated material captures 99.97% of microscopic particulates 0.3 microns and larger, delivering exceptionally clean exhaust air.
Protects Brushless Motors: Stops ultra-fine construction dust from bypassing the filter, protecting the expensive digital motor from overheating and catastrophic failure.
Durable Construction: Manufactured using high-quality, rigid materials designed to withstand the intense suction of 18V and 40V commercial vacuums without collapsing.
Fast, Tool-Free Installation: Engineered for user convenience; the filter pushes securely into the vacuum housing in seconds, allowing for rapid field maintenance.
Genuine Makita Quality: As an authentic OEM accessory, it guarantees a flawless, airtight seal inside the dust capsule, preventing dangerous dust leaks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a HEPA filter better than a standard cloth filter?

HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are made from dense, pleated fibers. While standard cloth filters catch visible dirt, a HEPA filter traps 99.97% of microscopic particles (like pollen, smoke, and fine plaster dust) down to 0.3 microns, ensuring the exhaust air is clinically clean.

Will this fit my Makita DCL180 vacuum?

No. This specific HEPA filter (199989-8) is designed for Makita's newer Brushless stick vacuums, specifically the 18V DCL280 and DCL281, and the 40V CL001G. The older DCL180 uses a different cloth pre-filter system.

Can I wash this HEPA filter with water?

Generally, pleated HEPA filters should not be washed with water unless explicitly stated by the manufacturer, as water can destroy the microscopic fiberglass web. It is best to gently tap the filter against the inside of a bin or use a soft brush to remove the dust.

How do I know when the HEPA filter needs replacing?

You should replace the filter when your vacuum experiences a noticeable, permanent drop in suction power, if the vacuum feels unusually hot to the touch, or if the filter media appears heavily discolored and clogged with dirt.

Why does my vacuum pulse or cut out when I use it?

Makita's brushless vacuums have intelligent sensors. If the HEPA filter is completely blocked with fine dust, the vacuum detects an airflow restriction and will shut down the motor to prevent it from overheating and catching fire. Replacing the filter fixes this immediately.

Is this filter safe for vacuuming plaster or drywall dust?

Yes. Plaster dust is incredibly fine and will blow right through a standard cloth filter, ruining the motor. This HEPA filter is specifically designed to trap those ultra-fine, hazardous construction dusts.

How often should I replace this HEPA filter?

For heavy commercial or construction use, you may need to replace it every 3 to 6 months. For standard domestic household use, replacing it every 6 to 12 months is usually sufficient to maintain optimal suction.

Does it come with any other parts?

This listing is for the HEPA filter cartridge itself (Part 199989-8). It does not include the plastic pre-filter housing or the vacuum cleaner unit.

Is this a genuine Makita product?

Yes, this is a 100% genuine Makita OEM accessory, ensuring it seals perfectly inside your vacuum's capsule to prevent microscopic dust from bypassing the filter.

Will this filter help with my asthma?

Yes. Because it traps microscopic allergens, dust mites, and pet dander securely inside the vacuum, it stops those triggers from being blown back into your living room air, making it highly beneficial for asthma sufferers.

Is it difficult to install?

Not at all. It features a simple, tool-free design. You open the dust capsule, pull the old filter assembly out, slide the new HEPA filter into place, and close the capsule.

Do you offer trade pricing for construction workers?

Yes, Freshway Supplies provides competitive trade and bulk pricing for builders, tradespeople, and commercial cleaning companies outfitting their teams. Contact us to set up your trade account.

They earned it! I hardly ever leave reviews, but Abe absolutely deserves this one.

I rang ready to spend nearly $2,000. Unfortunately, the item wasn’t in stock for pickup and would take seven days to arrive. Abe said he’d call me back.

Five minutes later, he had found one in stock at another business in Parramatta — and negotiated the same discount for me there.
He had just lost the sale, yet he was genuinely happy he could help. That says everything.

This is how an excellent reputation is earned: day by day, customer by customer. Could not possibly ask for more.

Thank you, Abe — AWESOME service!
