Product Description

Edco ABC Steel Wool Refill - Grade 0000 (Super Fine)

Achieve an unparalleled, mirror-like finish on the most sensitive surfaces with the Edco ABC Steel Wool Grade 0000. Classified as 'Super Fine', this is the absolute softest, most delicate commercial steel wool available on the market. Engineered with microscopic, hair-like steel filaments, it provides an ultra-gentle polishing action that effortlessly removes overspray, hard water spots, and severe oxidation without inflicting scratches or dulling high-gloss finishes.

The Grade 0000 pad is the industry standard for professional automotive detailers, master carpenters, and commercial window cleaners. It is exceptionally pliable, conforming seamlessly to complex architectural hardware and delicate automotive trims. Widely utilized to cut back final coats of high-gloss polyurethane, polish antique brass, and safely remove stubborn mineral deposits from commercial glass, this premium abrasive is an indispensable consumable for operations demanding flawless, high-end restorative detailing.

Ideal For:

Commercial Window Cleaning: The only grade safe enough to gently dry-scrub stubborn hard water spots, sap, and paint overspray directly off commercial glass and mirrors without scratching.
High-End Woodworking: Used to rub down the final coat of shellac, lacquer, or French polish, creating an exceptionally smooth, hand-rubbed, high-gloss finish on premium cabinetry.
Automotive Detailing: Safely buffs and polishes highly sensitive chrome trims, alloy wheels, and exhaust tips to a brilliant mirror finish when paired with a quality metal polish.

Key Features & Operational Benefits:

Super Fine Grade 0000 Abrasion: The absolute finest grade available, providing a polishing action that cleans and buffs sensitive surfaces without structural scratching.
Safe on Glass & Chrome: The microscopic wire matrix is gentle enough to clean heavily soiled commercial windows and high-gloss automotive chrome safely.
Exceptional Pliability: The incredibly soft matrix effortlessly reaches into the deepest crevices of detailed wood carvings and ornate metal hardware for a uniform finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Grade 0000 steel wool used for?

Grade 0000 is the finest 'Super Fine' abrasive. It is exclusively used for highly delicate polishing tasks, such as removing water spots from glass, buffing mirror-finish chrome, and rubbing out final topcoats of premium varnish.

Is it really safe to use on glass and mirrors?

Yes. Grade 0000 is widely used by professional window cleaners to remove paint overspray, sap, and hard water stains from glass. Always ensure the glass and the pad are completely free of heavy dirt to prevent dragging a rock across the pane.

Can I use it to polish my car's paintwork?

Absolutely NOT. While it is safe for glass and chrome, even the finest steel wool will instantly and permanently scratch automotive clear-coat paint. Only use microfiber and specialized foam pads on car paint.

How is it used in fine woodworking?

Master carpenters use Grade 0000 to gently rub down the final cured coat of polyurethane or French polish. It removes microscopic dust nibs, resulting in a flawless, glass-like 'hand-rubbed' finish.

Is this steel wool highly flammable?

Yes, extremely. Because the steel fibers are microscopic, Grade 0000 is highly combustible. It will ignite instantly if exposed to an open flame or a simple spark from a 9V battery. Store it securely.

Will the steel wool rust if it gets wet?

Yes. It is manufactured from pure carbon steel and will rust very quickly if exposed to water. It is recommended to use it dry or with oil-based metal polishes, and discard it after use.

Does it contain any polishing chemicals?

No. This is a dry, pure carbon-steel pad. You must add your own glass cleaner, metal polish, or wax depending on your specific restoration task.

How do I cut the pad safely?

Always use a pair of scissors to cut the required amount off the pad. Never tear it by hand, as the incredibly fine wire can easily slice your skin like a paper cut.

Is it safe for cleaning stainless steel sinks?

Caution is advised. Scrubbing brushed stainless steel with carbon steel wool can leave microscopic iron particles behind, which will rust and stain the sink. Use a synthetic non-scratch pad for stainless steel.

Should I wear a mask when using this?

Yes. When buffing vigorously on dry surfaces, the fine wire can shed microscopic steel dust. It is highly recommended to wear safety glasses and a dust mask to prevent inhaling the metallic particles.

Can it remove rust from tools?

Grade 0000 is too fine to remove heavy, flaky rust. However, it is perfect for polishing off light surface oxidation and restoring a high shine to old hand tools.

Do you offer trade pricing for professional window cleaners?

Yes, Freshway Supplies provides volume pricing and trade accounts for window cleaners, automotive detailers, and antique restorers. Contact us to establish your account.

They earned it! I hardly ever leave reviews, but Abe absolutely deserves this one.

I rang ready to spend nearly $2,000. Unfortunately, the item wasn’t in stock for pickup and would take seven days to arrive. Abe said he’d call me back.

Five minutes later, he had found one in stock at another business in Parramatta — and negotiated the same discount for me there.
He had just lost the sale, yet he was genuinely happy he could help. That says everything.

This is how an excellent reputation is earned: day by day, customer by customer. Could not possibly ask for more.

Thank you, Abe — AWESOME service!
