Product Description

Edco ABC Steel Wool Refill - Grade 00 (Very Fine)

Achieve an impeccable, mirror-like finish on delicate surfaces with the Edco ABC Steel Wool Grade 00. Classified as 'Very Fine', this premium commercial steel wool is the abrasive of choice for professional automotive detailers, antique restorers, and master carpenters. Engineered with hair-like steel filaments, it provides an ultra-gentle cutting action that effectively buffs away microscopic imperfections, tarnishes, and oxidation without dulling the underlying high-gloss finish.

The Grade 00 pad is extraordinarily pliable, conforming flawlessly to the most complex architectural filigree, intricate wood carvings, and delicate automotive trim. It is highly sought after for cutting back high-gloss polyurethane between final coats, ensuring a glass-like finish on premium cabinetry. Additionally, when paired with specialized polishing compounds, it effortlessly restores the brilliant shine to sensitive metals such as polished brass, mirror-finish chrome, and stainless steel, making it a highly critical consumable for high-end detailing and restoration.

Ideal For:

High-End Woodworking: The ultimate abrasive for rubbing out and dulling final topcoats of varnish, shellac, and polyurethane to achieve a flawless, hand-rubbed satin or high-gloss finish.
Automotive Detailing: Safely buffs water spots, exhaust soot, and light oxidation from highly polished chrome trims, grilles, and alloy wheels without inflicting swirl marks.
Metal Polishing: Restores a brilliant, mirror-like shine to delicate architectural brass, copper, and stainless steel fixtures in premium hospitality environments.

Key Features & Operational Benefits:

Very Fine Grade 00 Abrasion: The ultra-fine filaments provide a polishing action rather than a cutting action, completely eliminating the risk of structural scratching on sensitive surfaces.
Exceptional Pliability: The soft, hair-like matrix effortlessly reaches into the deepest crevices of detailed wood carvings and ornate metal hardware for a uniform finish.
High-Quality Steel Alloy: Manufactured to resist rapid shedding, ensuring the pad holds together during meticulous, sustained polishing tasks.
Chemical Synergistic: Perfectly complements liquid and paste metal polishes, cutting oils, and waxes to deliver unmatched restorative results.

Technical Specifications:

Brand: Edco
Product Range: ABC Handyman Refill
Product Type: Steel Wool
Abrasive Grade: Grade 00 (Very Fine)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Grade 00 steel wool used for?

Grade 00 is a 'Very Fine' abrasive. It is used exclusively for delicate finishing tasks, such as polishing mirror-finish chrome, buffing antique brass, and rubbing out final coats of varnish to achieve a glass-like finish on wood.

Is Grade 00 safe to use on my car's chrome?

Yes. Very Fine Grade 00 (and ultra-fine 0000) are the industry standard for automotive detailers. When used gently with a quality metal polish or lubricant, it safely removes oxidation and water spots from chrome without scratching.

How is it used in woodworking?

Carpenters use it to gently rub down the final coat of polyurethane or lacquer. This removes microscopic dust nibs and creates an exceptionally smooth, hand-rubbed satin or high-gloss finish.

Can I use it to clean my shower screens?

Professional cleaners sometimes use Very Fine (00 or 0000) steel wool with a lubricant to remove hard water scale from glass shower screens. However, it must be done with extreme care, as applying too much pressure can micro-scratch the glass.

Is it safe to use on stainless steel appliances?

You must be cautious. Scrubbing brushed stainless steel with carbon steel wool can leave microscopic iron particles behind, which will cause 'rust spotting'. For stainless steel, use dedicated synthetic non-scratch pads or specialized stainless steel wool.

Is this steel wool highly flammable?

Yes! Because the steel fibers are so incredibly thin (hair-like), Grade 00 is highly combustible. It will ignite instantly if it touches a battery terminal or an open flame. Store it securely in a closed container.

Does it contain polishing chemicals?

No. This is a dry, pure carbon-steel pad. You must add your own metal polish, cutting oil, or wax depending on your specific restoration task.

Will it rust?

Yes. If the carbon steel gets wet, it will rust rapidly. It is recommended to use it dry or with oil-based lubricants, and discard the pad once it degrades.

How do I cut the pad?

Always use scissors to cut the required amount off the roll. Never tear it by hand, as the fine wire can easily slice your skin.

Can I use it to clean brass musical instruments?

Yes, Grade 00 is gentle enough to polish delicate brass instruments when paired with the correct brass polishing compound, restoring shine without dulling the metal.

Should I wear PPE when using this?

Yes. When buffing dry, the fine wire can shed microscopic steel dust. It is highly recommended to wear safety glasses and a dust mask to prevent inhaling the metallic particles.

Do you offer trade pricing for automotive detailers?

Yes, Freshway Supplies provides volume pricing and trade accounts for professional detailers, carpenters, and restoration specialists. Contact us to establish your account.

They earned it! I hardly ever leave reviews, but Abe absolutely deserves this one.

I rang ready to spend nearly $2,000. Unfortunately, the item wasn’t in stock for pickup and would take seven days to arrive. Abe said he’d call me back.

Five minutes later, he had found one in stock at another business in Parramatta — and negotiated the same discount for me there.
He had just lost the sale, yet he was genuinely happy he could help. That says everything.

This is how an excellent reputation is earned: day by day, customer by customer. Could not possibly ask for more.

Thank you, Abe — AWESOME service!
