Product Description

Edco ABC Steel Wool Refill - Grade 0 (Fine)

The Edco ABC Steel Wool Grade 0 is a premium, fine-grade abrasive meticulously engineered for delicate surface restoration and finishing tasks. Designed for professional tradespeople and restorers, this commercial steel wool provides a highly controlled, gentle abrasive action. It is the optimal tool for cleaning and polishing sensitive architectural metals, antique hardware, and fine timber surfaces without stripping the underlying base material or causing aggressive scratching.

Manufactured from high-quality, fine-drawn steel alloy, the Grade 0 pad conforms flawlessly to the most intricate details, making it exceptional for buffing curved brass tapware, restoring oxidized copper, and removing stubborn water spots from robust aluminum. In woodworking, it is highly favored for the final smoothing of cabinetry and for removing minor burn marks or paint splatters from polished floors. Providing superior tactile feedback and finishing control, it is an essential consumable for detailed facility maintenance and high-end restoration.

Ideal For:

Metal Restoration: The perfect abrasive for gently removing heavy tarnish and oxidation from brass, copper, zinc, and aluminum without dulling the metal's natural luster.
Antique Woodworking: Delivers a gentle cut for smoothing delicate shellac and lacquer finishes, or for safely removing paint splatters from existing polished hardwood floors.
Automotive & Marine Detailing: Safely buffs out light rust spots from robust chrome bumpers, exhaust pipes, and marine hardware when paired with metal polish.

Key Features & Operational Benefits:

Fine Grade 0 Abrasion: Provides a highly delicate, controlled cut that cleans and polishes sensitive surfaces without inflicting the deep scratches caused by coarser grades.
Superior Conformability: The fine, pliable wire matrix easily wraps around ornate handles, intricate filigree, and tubular pipes for a uniform polishing finish.
High-Quality Steel Alloy: Engineered to resist immediate fraying, allowing the pad to maintain its structural integrity during detailed buffing tasks.
Chemical Synergistic: Delivers outstanding restorative results when saturated with specialized metal polishes, brass cleaners, or finishing oils.

Technical Specifications:

Product Range: ABC Handyman Refill

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Grade 0 steel wool used for?

Grade 0 is a 'Fine' abrasive. It is primarily used for delicate tasks such as polishing tarnished brass, copper, and aluminum, removing minor rust spots from solid chrome, and the final smoothing of timber finishes.

Can I use Grade 0 to polish my car's chrome?

Yes, Grade 0 is often used by detailers to remove light rust and hard water spots from robust metal chrome bumpers and exhausts. However, you should always test on an inconspicuous area first, and using ultra-fine Grade 0000 is safer for high-gloss mirror finishes.

Is this safe to use on glass?

While it is fine, Grade 0 still carries a high risk of micro-scratching modern glass and mirrors. For cleaning glass, ONLY use the ultra-fine Grade 0000, and use it with appropriate lubrication.

How does it help with woodworking?

Grade 0 is excellent for rubbing down final coats of shellac, lacquer, or polyurethane. It removes tiny dust nibs and smooths the surface without aggressively stripping the finish away.

Can I use it to clean antique brass hardware?

Yes, Grade 0 is highly recommended for restoring antique brass and copper. When paired with a liquid metal polish, it gently lifts years of oxidation without ruining the patina or scratching the metal.

Will this steel wool catch fire?

Yes. Fine grades of steel wool, like Grade 0, are highly combustible. They can easily ignite if exposed to a direct flame or a simple spark from a battery terminal. Store them safely.

Does it contain cleaning chemicals?

No, this is a dry, pure carbon-steel abrasive pad. It does not contain any impregnated soaps or detergents.

Will the steel wool rust if it gets wet?

Yes. If you use it with water or a water-based cleaner, the carbon steel will rust very quickly. It is best used dry or with oil-based metal polishes and discarded when degraded.

How should I cut the pad?

Always use heavy-duty scissors or snips. Tearing fine steel wool by hand can easily result in deep cuts to your skin.

Is it safe to use on aluminum window frames?

Yes, Grade 0 is gentle enough to clean heavy oxidation and pitting off commercial aluminum window frames without causing severe scoring.

Should I wear a mask when using this?

When polishing dry, steel wool can shed fine metallic dust. It is highly recommended to wear safety glasses and a basic dust mask to prevent inhaling the fine particles.

Do you offer trade pricing for professional restorers?

Yes, Freshway Supplies provides volume pricing and trade accounts for automotive detailers, antique restorers, and facility managers. Contact us to establish your account.

They earned it! I hardly ever leave reviews, but Abe absolutely deserves this one.

I rang ready to spend nearly $2,000. Unfortunately, the item wasn’t in stock for pickup and would take seven days to arrive. Abe said he’d call me back.

Five minutes later, he had found one in stock at another business in Parramatta — and negotiated the same discount for me there.
He had just lost the sale, yet he was genuinely happy he could help. That says everything.

This is how an excellent reputation is earned: day by day, customer by customer. Could not possibly ask for more.

Thank you, Abe — AWESOME service!
