Product Description

Edco ABC Handyman Steel Wool Display Pack

The Edco ABC Handyman Display Pack provides a comprehensive, highly versatile assortment of premium steel wool grades, engineered to tackle a wide spectrum of commercial and domestic surface preparation tasks. Sourced from high-quality steel alloys, this multi-grade pack allows tradespeople, painters, and facility maintenance teams to transition seamlessly from heavy-duty rust removal to ultra-fine surface polishing without needing to purchase bulk quantities of individual grades.

This organized display pack includes a variety of coarseness levels, ensuring the operator always has the precise abrasive required for the job. Whether stripping old paint from timber architraves, cutting back severe corrosion on metal pipes, or delicately buffing copper and brass fixtures, this commercial cleaning supply offers exceptional mechanical friction. It is an indispensable, highly economical consumable for workshop maintenance, painting preparation, and general hard-surface restoration.

Ideal For:

Painters & Decorators: The perfect abrasive tool for stripping away flaking paint, smoothing out wood grain before varnishing, and keying surfaces for optimal paint adhesion.
Metalworkers & Plumbers: Aggressively cuts through heavy surface rust, oxidation, and mineral deposits on steel pipes and metal fixtures.
Restoration & Detailing: The finer grades are excellent for buffing and restoring a brilliant shine to delicate metals like copper, brass, and aluminum without causing deep scratches.

Key Features & Operational Benefits:

Multi-Grade Assortment: Contains a curated selection of steel wool grades (ranging from coarse to fine), providing maximum versatility in a single convenient package.
High-Quality Steel Alloy: Manufactured to resist rapid crumbling and disintegration, ensuring each pad provides sustained cutting power over a longer operational lifespan.
Conformable Abrasive: Unlike rigid sandpaper, steel wool flexes and molds perfectly to curved pipes, intricate wood carvings, and complex metal fixtures for an even finish.
Dry or Wet Application: Can be used dry for standard sanding tasks, or paired with chemical paint strippers, metal polishes, or oils for specialized restoration work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the 'Display Pack'?

The display pack typically includes an assortment of different steel wool grades ranging from coarse (for heavy stripping) down to fine (for polishing). It provides a versatile toolkit for various handyman tasks in one package.

What do the different steel wool grades mean?

Steel wool is graded by numbers. Coarse grades (like 3 or 4) have thick wire and are highly abrasive, used for stripping paint and heavy rust. Fine grades (like 00 or 0000) have hair-like wire and are used for delicate polishing and finishing.

Can I use steel wool to polish metal?

Yes. The finest grades of steel wool (such as 000 or 0000) are exceptional for buffing and polishing brass, copper, and chrome without leaving visible scratches.

Is it better than sandpaper for woodwork?

For flat surfaces, sandpaper is often faster. However, steel wool is highly flexible and conforms to the shape of the object. It is vastly superior to sandpaper for cleaning intricate wood carvings, curved chair legs, and molding.

Can I use steel wool with liquid chemicals?

Yes, steel wool is frequently used in conjunction with chemical paint strippers, mineral spirits, or metal polishing compounds to accelerate the removal of tough residues.

Will steel wool rust?

Yes. Because it is made of raw carbon steel, it will oxidize and rust very quickly if exposed to water. If you use it with a water-based liquid, discard the pad after use.

Can I use it to clean glass or mirrors?

Very fine grade steel wool (0000) is occasionally used by professionals to remove hard water stains from glass. However, caution is advised as pressing too hard or using a coarse grade will permanently scratch the glass.

Is it safe to use on stainless steel?

Caution is required. Scrubbing stainless steel with standard carbon steel wool can leave microscopic iron particles behind, which will cause the stainless steel to appear as though it is rusting. Use dedicated stainless steel scrubbers for food-grade steel.

How do I cut the steel wool to size?

Do not attempt to tear it with your hands, as the steel fibers can cut your skin. Always use heavy-duty scissors or tin snips to cut off the exact amount of steel wool you need.

Does it present a fire hazard?

Yes. Fine grade steel wool is highly flammable. Keep it strictly away from open flames, sparks, or electrical terminals (especially live batteries), as it can ignite rapidly.

Do you offer trade accounts for painting contractors?

Yes, Freshway Supplies provides trade pricing and volume discounts for professional painters, builders, and facility maintenance teams. Contact us to establish your account.

They earned it! I hardly ever leave reviews, but Abe absolutely deserves this one.

I rang ready to spend nearly $2,000. Unfortunately, the item wasn’t in stock for pickup and would take seven days to arrive. Abe said he’d call me back.

Five minutes later, he had found one in stock at another business in Parramatta — and negotiated the same discount for me there.
He had just lost the sale, yet he was genuinely happy he could help. That says everything.

This is how an excellent reputation is earned: day by day, customer by customer. Could not possibly ask for more.

Thank you, Abe — AWESOME service!
